BurdaStyle Smocked Sleeveless Dress

This BurdaStyle pattern was such a nice design, as soon as I saw it I wanted to make my own version. It said in the description that it was a lovely dress and it certainly turned out that way. To explain how quick and easy this dress actually was, I managed to create this while watching an episode of Outlander. Minus the hand sewing and fabric covered buttons of course.

Pattern Information

Pattern: BurdaStyle Smocked Back Dress
Description: This heavenly corset style dress is lovely and versatile with a front snap placket, hip pockets, and a fitted smocked back bodice. It is easy to make with sewing instructions that have step-by-step images so even if this is your first sewing project you’ll be able to follow along!
Fabric used: Blue lightweight denim and Black Cotton Sateen

What did you like about this pattern?

I made this dress in a lightweight polka dot denim and I really didn’t think coloured buttons would work so I created my own fabric covered buttons to match. I was so excited and happy with the result and it was ready to wear the very next day.

This polka dot version was my first tester dress hoping it would look nice and I loved it so much I created a second dress using Cotton Sateen. For this dress I ended up adding snaps to the front so it was super easy to get on and off.

Did you make any pattern alterations?

I didn’t add the straps just because I don’t really have any strapless dresses but I thought it worked pretty well. It’s tight enough that it doesn’t fall down. The fit was pretty much perfect, which is normally the case with me and BurdaStyle sizing. Another reason why I love their patterns and didn’t have to make any alterations!

Would you recommend to others?

Overall it’s a really great, easy to stitch up pattern. I highly recommend to others if you’re looking for a pretty summer dress to wear on the weekend.
