Charity Sewing – Laundry Bag

I discovered a Charity Project by Aussie Heroes which encourages people to make quilts and laundry bags for Aussie service men and women currently serving overseas, and to express our gratitude for their service. The majority of these bags are made to match requests that sailors, soldiers, airmen and airwomen requests, which are displayed on the website every Monday.

Pattern Information

This is just an example of a laundry bag that matches the sizing and final design. If you’re interested in creating one of these Laundry bags you can go to Aussie Heroes and they give you all the information in donating.

Approximate finished size : 53cm x 80cm (21inc x 44 inc)
Fabric Requirements: Suitable fabrics to make a laundry bag include patchwork fabric, unlined curtaining, doona covers and twill.

How did you create this design?

I had a look on Pinterest (as you do) and came up with the design above. It’s almost designed to look like a punching bag since these laundry bags are so big. I used my ScanNCut machine to cut out the words “Laundry” and then used the Iron-on-Flex Transfer to simply iron this onto the laundry bag.

I also used a thick cord for the draw string and there are also handles on the back to make it easy to carry.
