Frocktails Brisbane Dress

I was excited to be able to make it to the Brisbane Frocktails event which was held by the Brisbane Spoolette group on Facebook. It was held at the Greek Club in Brisbane, with over 100 ladies with unique and very beautiful handmade dresses. This was the perfect opportunity to go a little extra and make something I absolutely LOVE.

Pattern Information

Pattern: Lekala Top #4209 & Lekala Bottom #2538
Fabric: Italian Cotton from Selective Fine Fabrics
Pattern Description: This was a complete mash up of the two patterns. The skirt was an asymmetrical design with white cutout panel along the bottom. The top has a fitted sweetheart neckline with pleated side sections, cropped sleeves and sleeve bow ties.

Pattern Alterations

Top alterations: You can see from the original pattern that I have done a little bit of altering to create this design. The top neckline doesn’t poke out at the top towards the neck and I’ve also made more of a V shaped at the centre where it meets at the chest.

Skirt alterations: The skirt had to be merged at the front adding in a break at the back so I could allow for a back zipper. This was done fairly easy by just merging the front pattern pieces together. The skirt has also be altered so that it’s longer on both sides without such a drastic change from left to right.

What did you love about this pattern?

I wanted something that was going to be elegant, fun and bright, and also something I could wear again in summer. I originally created another version but really wanted something long and flowy, so I remade a new dress with a different skirt style. I also tested this dress with a more affordable denim fabric before I went cutting into this fabric given it was $149 per meter. I purchased two meters because I wasn’t quite sure how much I needed and only really used about 1.2 meters for this dress. So I was luckily able to create a colour block shirt out of it as well, which I can’t wait to finish.

Stay tuned for my denim version dress in the same pattern styling!
