Maxi Denim Colour Block Dress

I absolutely loved the Italian fabric long maxi dress I made for the Frocktails event so I decided to make another one in denim using a colour block style with light and dark denim.

Pattern: Lekala Top #4209 & Lekala Bottom #2538
Fabric: Lightweight denim from Spotlight stores
Pattern Description: This was a complete mash up of the two patterns. Denim colour block dress featuring an asymmetrical design skirt with light denim cutout panel. The top has a fitted sweetheart neckline and cropped sleeves.

Pattern alterations

As you can see this is a mash up of two different dresses and I had to do a few alterations to merge it into the one dress. You can read more about this in my previous post for the Brisbane Frocktails Event. Given this was a denim style dress I actually double stitched this together using a light orange thread, which was visible on the dress. This gave it a bit more of a store bought style.

What did you like about this dress?

I love the long maxi style dresses they are great for summer and also light weight for those muggy hot days we’ve had in Brisbane this past summer. I have worn this dress a few times now, styling it with flat shoes and a denim bag to just go for brunch and shopping. I definitely enjoyed the process of mixing and matching these patterns together to make this style dress and enjoyed the colour block variations on this dress. This version was as detailed as my Brisbane Frocktails dress but it suits this style being a plain denim and makes it perfect for a casual weekend wear dress. I highly recommend using the light and dark denim fabric to make something a bit more unique.
