Megan Neilson Kelly Skirt

This skirt is a great little pattern by Megan Nielson which is great for weekends or even work attire. I love that it’s high waisted, has pleats, pockets and is a really great design. Works amazing with thicker fabrics such as linen, denim, drill and other blends.

What do you like about this pattern?

I’ve now made this skirt a few times because it’s a very simple and easy skirt to stitch up. I have found the skirts with the thinker material to fit and sit better. The fabric I have used is a tan denim so the pleats really stay solid and is quite flattering to wear.

I love this skirt has big pockets and it sits higher on my waist line. The one thing I will say is the amount of buttons needed which around 10 in total. I actually went onto eBay and bought some in bulk from an online Australian supplier. I found originally with my button-up work shirts that the buttons were the most costly part of the garment and pushed it out to be quite expensive. However, going directly to the suppliers is a great way to save on costs, especially since some of my favourite local shops are closing down.

Did you make any alterations on this pattern?

No, I didn’t make any pattern alterations.

Would you recommend this pattern to others?

Megan Nielson patterns are great for beginner sewers as they have really good pictures and instructions. They are little more costly than your sale patterns at Spotlight but still very trendy and catered for the younger generation to adults. Plus, you can download them as PDF’s and get them instantly!
