Pink Lekala dress with wrap skirt

I had a massive fabric shopping day and ventured out to the Fabric Collection at Sumner and Selective Fine Fabrics at Mount Gravatt. This pink and blue fabric in Cotton Sateen was my favourite pick from the Fabric Collection. I love working with this stretch cotton material as it’s so comfortable and flattering to wear. I ended up using one of my top pick patterns from Lekala but added a few extra details to make it a bit more designer looking. This dress actually came before my Brisbane Frocktails dress and I ended up transferring the sleeve details to that dress too.

Description: A stylish dress with sweet heart neckline and mid length open wrap skirt with pleats.
Fabric used: Cotton Sateen from The Fabric Collection

What did you like about this pattern?

I have made this dress about a million times now. My Copy Cat Hello Molly post shows a number of different variations and fabric choices for this dress style. For this version I made the skirt longer on both sides and added a colour block top. The fabric really stands out and it was easy to pair with a white belt and shoes!

Did you make any pattern alterations?

For this version dress I ended up making a bow for the sleeve by just sewing two long pieces of fabric and adding them at the top of the sleeve. The second alteration was the pleated strip that I added to the top where the white colour material meets the coloured fabric, as well as along the bottom of the sleeves. I found this a really nice feature to the sleeve and definitely something I will use again.
