McCalls M8252 White Linen Cutout Dress

I was on the hunt for a pretty dress to wear to a wedding and despite the dress being mostly white, I fell in love with the fabric and design. This was the second attempt at this pattern after making a few alterations to the original pattern design.

What did you like about this pattern?

This style of dress has been very popular in shopping centres the past year, so it was great to see something on trend you could make yourself. The front joining part around the bamboo circle also wasn’t something I had created before, so it was great to learn something new.

I loved the style of the top and the skirt is very free flowing and fully lined. The gathering at the back of the shirt also makes it quite comfortable. It was a bit of a difficult dress to try on given all the separate parts, so be prepared to get stuck trying to get it on.

What pattern alterations did you make?

The original pattern actually has the front join more to the side of the dress. However, I didn’t feel completely comfortable wearing it after I made it. I also liked the longer version better and felt a bit more age appropriate wearing it for this style of occasion.

I didn’t include the front flit for the longer style version and just kept it as a full circle skirt.

Overall I really liked this dress and found it very pretty to wear. It’s perfect for our summers and very light weight being made from Linen material. I highly recommend this pattern and know that it will be a hit for all ages. If you’re like me though and a little more conservative I can highlight recommend the slight change to the front section for a bit more coverage.
